When we talk about technology, we refer to the accumulation of the knowledge, techniques, skills, methods and processes that the human being has mastered throughout its history, applied to the production of goods and services or to the acquisition of scientific knowledge.
In a strict sense, technology is defined as the set of knowledge linked to technique, that is, to the possibility of building objects and artifacts, as suggested by the origin of the word, union of words greeks tekne (“art”, “trade” or “technique”) and logos (“study”, “discourse” or “know”). In the contemporary world, technology is understood as the intersection between science and engineering.
Technology is the most powerful tool ever developed by the human being, which has allowed shape the world to their advantage, instead of adapting himself to his environment, as they have done and continue to do others living beings of the planet. But at the same time, technology reflects many of the human contradictions, derived from its great inventiveness and at the same time from its enormous capacity for selfishness.
That is why there are many philosophical debates regarding technology and whether its existence improves or worsens human life. And it is that, like science, technology is amoral: it is neither good nor bad in itself, but depends on the use we give it and the way we think about it. It is not about the instrument, but about the hand that wields it.
