English / / July 04, 2021
The Personal pronouns in english are words that serve to refer to the subject of the sentence, without mentioning it directly, whether it is written in the sentence or not.
The Personal pronouns in english They help us to determine the corresponding verb form, since they have two characteristics: the person and the number.
The person is the characteristic of the pronoun that indicates who it is referring to. There are three people:
First person: who speaks
Second person: who is spoken to, who is listening
Third person: who is being talked about.
The number refers to whether the pronoun only refers to a single individual or to many. When it refers to a single individual, it is singular and when it speaks of many, it is plural.
From the combination of these characteristics, we obtain six pronouns, which will indicate the verb forms to use. This difference is more noticeable with the verb to be (to be or to be), so we will use it as a base to explain each pronoun:
- I - I - First person singular: I am
- You - you, you - Second person singular - you are
- He he - he - third person singular, masculine - he is
- She - ella - third person singular, feminine - she is
- It - it - third person singular, neuter - it is
- We - we - first person plural - we are
- You - you - second person plural - you are
- They - them - third person plural - they are
Now we will make you some details about the Personal pronouns in english:
The personal pronoun of the first person singular must always be capitalized, even if it goes in the middle of the sentence: We come here and I waited for 20 minutes.
The pronoun of the second person is the same for the singular and the plural; in the conjugation of verbs the plural form is always used: Fred, you have come to see me! (singular). What a surprise! You (all) came to my party! (plural). Also there is no differentiated form between the formal and informal second person singular, that is, there is no difference between you and you, as in Spanish.
In the third person singular there are three forms: masculine, feminine and neuter. The masculine and feminine forms are used with humans, while the neuter is used with objects and animals, regardless of their gender: I have is engineer, she is architect. Is Item your dog? Item is dad’s car.
In the plural there is only one form for the third person. The boys came early, they want see the girls. The lions eat meat, they are carnivorous.
