Sentences With Collective Nouns

The collective nouns are those nouns that name a collective entity in the singular, that is, they name a set or grouping of things, people, animals, etc. For example:

• Student body is a collective noun because it names a set of students.
• Clergy is a collective noun because it names a clergymen set.

On the contrary, it is important to also distinguish between individual nouns, which name entities individually; and, to name a community, they need to be in the plural. For example, the noun student whose plural is students.

Types of collective nouns

There are two types of collective nouns, depending on what they name:
