Summary and Synthesis
The difference between abstract and synthesis It lies in the content that each one has. A summary is a text in which the central points of a book, an article, a movie, among others, are stated.
A synthesis it is a text in which the central points of another text or another type of production are stated, but in which the author includes an analysis or an interpretation.
Summary and Synthesis are similar in that they both mention the main ideas of another text, but they differ in that more information is added in the Synthesis.
- Follow with: Summary tab
Summary Features
- Contents. There is a coherent exposition of the central ideas.
- Format. The structure of the original is followed and it is a text in which there is continuity, that is, ideas are not written in a fragmented way.
- Production. The most important is written and all non-essential or accessory information is deleted.
- Extension. It must be shorter than the original (approximately 25% of the original), but must include all the important ideas.
- Purpose. The objective is to briefly explain the content of another text, mentioning only the main ideas and achieve a better understanding of the original. In many cases, it is the type of text that is used to study.
How to make a summary?
- Read the text in depth.
- Underline or indicate what is the main idea and what are the secondary ideas of each paragraph.
- Copy what has been underlined, but adding the necessary words so that the text is coherent and cohesive.
Synthesis Characteristics
- Contents. There is an exposition of the central ideas and how they are related and there is an analysis or interpretation of the author.
- Format. The structure of the original can be followed or modified by adding new information or making new connections between ideas.
- Production. What the author considered most important in the original is written and information from other texts can be added.
- Extension. It is free, but it has to be smaller than the original.
- Purpose. The objective is to make an interpretation of the original text, an extension by adding own reflections and generating a critical reading that allows to learn a topic in a reflexive way.
How to make a synthesis?
- Read the text in depth.
- Underline the main and secondary ideas and establish the links between them.
- Make a Sketch to sort the information. It is best to go from the simplest to the most complex.
- Paraphrase, reformulate and clarify what has been underlined or what the author considers necessary, but including an analysis or interpretation of the concepts.

- Summary of Expository text on global warming
Global warming is the increase in temperatures of the layers of the atmosphere closest to the Earth's surface. This event produces important changes in the climatic cycles and in the composition of the terrestrial chemistry and It is a consequence of the accumulation of carbon-rich gases in the atmosphere, which produces the greenhouse effect.
Although it has always existed, climate change has occurred more rapidly since the end of the 19th century (since the beginning of industrialization). The scientific community considers that the warming with abnormal margins is probably the responsibility of the human being.
The consequences of warming are the melting of the poles and eternal snow on the peaks mountains, which increases water levels and atmospheric humidity, and generates a global climate system more chaotic. In addition, it has economic and humanitarian consequences.
The solutions to this problem are not compatible with the current economic and consumption model.
The great global powers have embarked on a "green" or "sustainable" model, and have set the year 2050 as the deadline to carry out this transition.
- Synthesis of Expository text on global warming
Global warming is a phenomenon that has various causes, terrible consequences and solutions that are not always easy to implement.
This phenomenon consists of an increase in the temperatures of the layers of the atmosphere closest to the Earth's surface. Before it was not a general concern, but in the middle of the 20th century it began to be, when specialists realized that the greenhouse effect was taking place.
Carbon-rich gases produce the greenhouse effect and, therefore, global warming. These gases and climate change have always existed, but since the end of the 19th century, when global industrialization began, the environmental situation has worsened.
The average temperature of the earth began to increase in the middle of the 19th century and from 1880 to the present it has increased between 0.13 and 0.22 °C each decade. Therefore, scientists believe that it is very likely that the industrial activities of humans are the cause of this phenomenon.
The consequences of this phenomenon are the melting of glaciers, the rise in sea level, a climate more chaotic and unpredictable global climate, the reduction of arable land and the loss of life in oceans.
The solutions have to be implemented as soon as possible, but it is not an easy task, since emissions of gases rich in carbon would have to be reduced. carbon by 80% to prevent this phenomenon from getting worse, but this would mean that the economic model and the consumption. In any case, many countries are gradually modifying the economic production model of their territory.
- Summary of Reflection on pollution
About 2.4 billion years ago, the Great Oxidation Event or the Oxygen Catastrophe occurred, and it was the product of the appearance and multiplication of the first photosynthetic organisms, which began to flood the atmosphere with molecules of oxygen. Billions of years later, humans and other animals depend on the presence of that oxygen to survive, but we do little to preserve it in our atmosphere.
The world was not prepared for the arrival of human industries, since by throwing gases with a high carbon content into the atmosphere, the human being is rapidly transforming our atmosphere (the percentage of oxygen decreases in relation to other gases and the increase in temperature occurs global). For all this, it is very likely that our Great Pollution will wipe out the species that live on this planet.
Climate change scholars warn that carbon emissions must be reduced in 30 years so that the new climate system does not become irreversible.
The climatic catastrophe is going to alter the way in which the different ecosystems work and is going to suppose an enormous economic problem for the humanity, because there will be less arable land on the planet, more ferocious climate cycles and oceans unable to sustain the same amount of living beings. Therefore, measures must be taken urgently.
- Synthesis of Reflection on pollution
The Great Oxidation or the Oxygen Catastrophe was an event that produced a profound environmental change because many species disappeared, but synthetic organisms appeared that flooded the atmosphere of oxygen. It was thanks to this change that humans and animals were able to inhabit this planet.
However, the human being does not do much to take care of the atmosphere that allows him to live: with the industries and With transport, gases with a high carbon content are emitted that make the percentage of oxygen decrease. This pollution produces the greenhouse effect and, therefore, global warming.
According to many specialists, it is urgently necessary to reduce carbon emissions and pollution because climate change is going to alter the functioning of ecosystems, it will generate economic problems, there will be fewer fertile places to produce food and there will be climatic cycles more chaotic.
- Summary of Descriptive Essay on Nature
Nature is the proper condition of things, and this meaning of the word is maintained when we use the term "nature" as a synonym of "natural world", that is, when referring to spaces that have not been intervened by The humanity.
On the one hand, cities are homogeneous, and on the other hand, nature is diverse multiple, full of animals, plants and physical-chemical processes that hide the secrets of life, that is, that nature is the refuge of life.
In the city, everything responds to a way of structuring life to obtain certain ends. On the other hand, in nature, nothing responds to any plan other than survival and reproduction. Only in nature can we find the raw material and recover the perspective of what we are.
It is necessary to preserve nature, so as not to create a different world that is unsuitable for numerous animal and plant species and for ourselves. We must protect nature from pollution, industries and our comfort to guarantee our continuity as a species on the planet.
- Synthesis of Descriptive Essay on Nature
The term "nature" refers to the proper condition of things and, in a similar sense, also refers to the natural world, that is, the world that has not been intervened by being human.
Nature is important because it is where the raw materials are found, where many forms of life and where people can recover the definition of their being and the reason for their existence.
But to understand its importance, it is necessary to differentiate it from cities. The latter are homogeneous, constant, without many different forms of life and are organized according to human interests and according to the logic of productivity. Instead, nature is diverse and multiple, contains many forms of life and is only organized according to the plan of survival and reproduction.
The natural space must be preserved from contamination and other actions of the human being so as not to modify it, since if modifies a lot may not be suitable for different forms of life and it is necessary to guarantee the continuity of the human being in this planet.
- Summary of Argumentative essay on technology in education
There is a debate in relation to education and information and telecommunications technologies (ICT), in the that UNESCO recognizes that ICTs can complement, enrich and transform education at scale planetary. For this, it is necessary that educational policies and traditional educational processes be updated to take advantage of new information and communication technologies, instead of staying out of they.
But the learning promoted by ICT in young people is not only self-taught but also non-face-to-face. These experiences are often immersive, self-centered and, if not properly counterbalanced, alienating. Quite the opposite of what the traditional school experience aspires to, which also points to socialization and group experience.
A contemporary schooling must recognize and channel this hypertechnological knowledge to bridge the technological gap and must know how to use this knowledge as tools at the service of the formation of a conscious citizenry, to row against the current of disinformation.
In conclusion, the incorporation of ICT is an essential condition for the survival of the school in the world and it is the main opportunity we have to train digital citizens endowed with judgment and the ability to discernment.
The school needs a strategic combination of face-to-face, virtual and organized telecommunications to obtain better results within the academic world and in the digital jungle.
- Synthesis of Argumentative essay on technology in education
The discussion about the relationship between the education of young people, training processes and the impact of technology is very present at this time. UNESCO maintains that ICTs serve to complement education. But to achieve this, it is necessary that education is updated and can improve with the incorporation of ICT.
However, there is a problem, since the teaching-learning processes that incorporate ICT are self-taught and non-face-to-face and young people learn to use digital tools on their own, without the guidance of a teacher. Therefore, without due care, these practices can be alienating and would be the opposite of one of the objectives of the school; for young people to socialize.
Education must guide the use and learning of ICTs, taking into account the technological gap and he must guide the training processes towards a conscious citizenship so that there is no disinformation. In addition, it is necessary to strategically combine face-to-face, virtual and telecommunications to encourage learning and to obtain better results in the academic world and in the digital world.
- Summary of Narcissus myth
Narcissus was a young man and was the son of the nymph Liriope and the river-god Cephisus. When he was a child, his mother took him to a fortune teller who told her that the child would live a long life, as long as he "never knew himself."
Narcissus grew up and became very beautiful, and everyone fell in love with him. But the young man was vain, proud and cruel to his admirers. For that, he was punished by the gods, who sentenced him to fall in love with his own reflection.
One day Narcissus saw his reflection on the water and fell madly in love with himself. Then, he was unable to separate himself from the banks of the river and remained there, clinging to his image, until he died. From his spilled blood, the flowers that still bear his name today, the daffodils, were born.
- Synthesis of Narcissus myth
The myth of Narcissus is a Greek myth that tells the story of a young man who, being vain and cruel, was sentenced to fall in love with his own reflection. This myth has several versions, like that version of Ovid or the version of Conón. In any case, in almost all the versions the moralizing character of the story is highlighted.
This myth not only explains the origin of the Narcissus flower, but also gave rise to the name of a personality disorder: narcissism.
