The English pronouns(pronouns) are grammatical elements that are used, as in Spanish, to replace nouns, whether they are people, animals, or things that have been mentioned before or are clear from context, and avoid their repetition. For example:
- Paul is my best friend. (Paul: noun) / Paul is my best friend.
- He have is my best friend.(He have: pronoun) / He is my best friend.
Pronouns can express a relationship of belonging (mine, yours), point and indicate distance (this, that), or link a relative clause with the sentence (which, who), Among other functions.
Careful: Pronouns should not be confused with determiners or adjectives, which are followed by a noun. Pronouns can never be followed by a noun, since they replace it. For example:
- Este is mine. / This is mine. (Este: pronoun)
- This pencil is mine. / This pencil is mine. (Este: determinant)

Types of pronouns in English
