Importance of Families at School (Parent Participation)
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
In a school, students learn knowledge about all kinds of subjects and also values and attitudes for individual development. Everything that is learned in an educational center is necessary for the training from the student.
However, the educational process of a child goes much further. In this sense, the role of parents has a singular role in the formation of the little ones.
What role does the family play in the school education of the children?
In principle, parents are not professionals in educational matters. This is not to say that they have no role in teaching. In fact, there are many concrete actions that you can take to improve your children's academic training.
First of all, parents have the obligation to keep track of everything that a child learns and lives in an educational center. Thus, they can monitor their daily tasks or their evolution in class. By asking a few simple questions you can get a lot of information (what have you learned today? Do you have any pending homework? or when is the next exam?). In addition to these types of questions, parents can help in a more direct way (by studying with their children or asking them for the lesson).
As is logical, if parents detect any strange behavior in their children, it is necessary that they contact the school and speak with those responsible for the center. If the child does not feel protected by her parents in the face of a school problem (for example, a bullying situation), it is very likely that the problem will worsen.
In the family environment, things are learned that are not learned in school
A teacher has an obligation to teach a certain subject. To do this, he needs three tools: adequate knowledge, pedagogical capacity and a disciplinary regime that avoids possible conflicts.
At the same time, the teaching professional has to know how to transmit certain values to his students (for example, the solidarity or respect for peers). Parents cannot be mere spectators of what their children learn at school.
In daily family life, parents can and should teach all kinds of lessons:
1) that it is worth the effort,
2) that it is necessary to comply with the obligations and
3) that people live in society and it is necessary to respect certain norms of coexistence.
There is no infallible formula to transmit these ideas, but there are some guidelines that can be useful: lead by example, be close to your children at all times and express love to them.
