When an act is committed with evil and intentionally there is talk of perfidy. In this sense, it is a way of manipulating or deceiving in bad faith. The person who acts in this way is a perfidious or a perfidious.
In relation to the origin of the term, it comes from the combination of the prefix per and the root fides, which means confidence. If we attend to your etymology, indicates that something goes beyond trust and, therefore, amounts to betrayal or disloyalty.
Traitor, unfaithful and disloyal
There is no one way to be treacherous. This type of behavior usually refers to a traitor, an unfaithful person or someone who commits an act of disloyalty.
Being a traitor implies that an individual takes advantage of his close relationship with someone and acts against him. Betrayal is considered a form of deception and contempt for someone.
We say that someone is unfaithful when he breaks a pact with another person. Usually this concept is used in the field of romantic relationships.
Someone acts unfairly when they do not follow certain rules or covenants. This concept is used in friendly, affective or professional relationships (in the field business There is competence unfair).
Examples to understand easily
In the military sphere or in combat between two opponents, it is considered that not everything goes to defeat the rival. In relation to war, there are international treaties that agree on the limits that should not be exceeded in a armed conflict. Similarly, in a sports-type fight there are certain tricks that go against the rules (for example, when an opponent pretends to be defeated to attack his opponent by surprise). In either case, when the agreed rules are broken, one can speak of perfidy.
From a religious point of view
When Jesus Christ was crucified, the Jews were accused of traitors, since they were the ones who caused his punishment. From a historical point of view, for centuries there has been talk of Jewish perfidy in this sense.
Doping in sport is another form of perfidy
If an athlete consumes a substance illegal that allows you to get better results, you are being perfidious in several senses. First of all, he goes against the rules laid down in his own sport. Second, he is betrayed his rivals who do not compete high. Lastly, he is lying and deceiving the fans and supporters.
