Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
Known more specifically as the 7 Wonders of the Modern World, the following historical constructions have been chosen in a process that began in 2000 and ended in 2007: the pyramid Chichen Itza in Mexico, Christ the Redeemer in Rio Janeiro in Brazil, the Great Wall in China, Machhu Picchu in Peru, the Petra gate in Jordan, the Taj Mahal in India and the Colosseum in Italy.
The 7 Wonders of the Modern World are a representative selection of the possibilities of Humanity
To understand the importance of the 7 Wonders of the World we must first remember that they exist in the culture world the 7 Wonders of the ancient world, those that many philosophers, thinkers, travelers and historians recorded as the most impressive constructions in the known world. These first 7 wonders that were ever known were: the Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (present-day Iran), the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in present-day Turkey, the Colossus of Rhodes in Greece, the Lighthouse of Alexandria (Egypt), the statue to
Zeus in Olympia (Greece) and the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus (present-day Turkey).Unfortunately, many of these wonders they have disappeared and today it is impossible to enjoy, know or visit them. That is why in the last years of the 20th century and the first years of the 21st century, real interest arose in establishing new 7 Wonders that could be traveled by all Humanity.
The voting process that was carried out included the direct participation of the people
Unlike what happened with other opportunities, in this case the current world wonders have been chosen by a voting process available worldwide that allowed people from all over the Earth to select their ideal combination from 7 locations existing today through Internet.
For that, a pre-selection of 200 options was carried out that included constructions from all over the world and from all continents, which did not happen with the wonders of the ancient world (because they belonged to the reduced world known by the peoples of the north). The final selection was announced in Lisbon in 2007, 7 years after the process began.
These sites have become UNESCO World Heritage Sites and are significant tourist centers.
One of the main functions of this list is to establish and recognize the greatest and most incredible achievements of Humanity. Many of these constructions (even the shortlisted ones that didn't make the final list) are impressive and learn more about them, detailing elements such as the construction process. construction, the historical context, the architectural style, the function that such a construction fulfills, is a very important part that brings us much closer to an increasingly complete understanding of our Humanity.
