There are people who have difficulty communicating with others. It is difficult for them to convey their emotions, they feel uncomfortable in the presence of strangers, they do not know how to say no when they are asked for a favor or they are reluctant to say what they really think. Are characteristics they are typical of someone who has no social skills.
A tool with multiple functions
If an individual knows how to interact naturally with others and his communication it is effective and rewarding in all kinds of contexts, it is someone with social skills.
It can be affirmed that these social skills are like a very useful tool for all kinds of circumstances: at work, in emotional relationships, at a party or in relationships between neighbors. Those who lack this tool find themselves with a problem that affects the whole of their life and it is very likely that they will have difficulties getting a job, making friends or finding love.
Having intellectual abilities is very useful in all areas of life. However, intellectual abilities are totally insufficient if they are not accompanied by adequate social skills.
The keys to your development
Most experts in communication and in the sphere of psychology agree that social skills can be learned. In this sense, there are three aspects that every person can exercise to form a set of social skills:
1) a positive attitude and the correct management of emotions,
2) ease in communication and
3) empathy with others.
With a positive attitude it is much easier for relationships with others to be rewarding and enriching
People who constantly complain and who see the negative side of life do not generate sympathy and, consequently, their personal relationships are negatively affected. On the other hand, personal emotions have to be managed with intelligence and for this it is necessary to control anger, shyness, bad humor and any aspect of character that makes intrapersonal relationships difficult.
Effective communication is vitally important. To achieve this, it is necessary to take into account a series of guidelines: speak naturally, try not to offend anyone, be cordial and close, say what one thinks without disturbing and promote a body language appropriate.
Empathy is the ability to put yourself in another's place. It does not consist in making yourself look good with others by feigning false interest, but in treating someone as we would like to be treated.
