Importance of Art History

We understand by history of art that discipline which is based on the study and analysis of the different forms of art generated by the human being since the beginning of time. Art history is then an important way to better understand the complex set of thoughts and feelings that Humanity as a whole has had throughout the centuries but also what a social, age group, of genre, in certain conditions or context has generated and what through that form of art (painting, sculpture, cinema, Photography, textiles, architecture, music, theater, decoration) has tried to convey.

Art history as a discipline

When we talk about history we refer to the study of the past, that is, what has already been. We can do general history of Humanity but we can also specify our study in any branch or specific information that forces us to carry out a much more personalized analysis of the data. The history of art is the branch of history whose main objective is the study and analysis of the forms of art that human beings have created from the beginning to the present.

While styles and forms have changed, thus making the study of art interesting and necessary, the branches of art have also been modified due to the development of new technologies and techniques of job. Thus, we can only speak of photography since the end of the 19th century, of cinema since the beginning of the 20th century, and of digital art since the second half of the 20th century. This is why the history of art is becoming more and more enriched and its work becomes more complex and broad.

The importance of art in the life of the human being

As with many other things created by man (for example, religion), art is a human creation that has served since the beginning of time to express meanings, feelings, sensations, thoughts, ideologies, beliefs, power.

Art is not only an artistic work in itself but it is much more than that: it is the understanding that human beings of a particular era makes of it, what it seeks to express and also what it wishes to generate in those who enjoy that construction site. Art, and with it also the history of art, seeks to decipher and swim in the depths of the complex human mind that needs means to channel itself and leave its mark.
