At the same time, the socioeconomic conditions were disastrous because Cuba remained a quasi-colony. of the United States, a country that it allowed to participate in its economy and that consumed sugar production at prices very low With a high proportion of society living in misery, mainly peasants, and an increasingly exalted oligarchy, the situation ended up becoming unsustainable.

One of the groups that most strongly organized the resistance was the one led by Fidel Castro, a law student, called Motion July 26 in honor of his first military action.
This group, which had the contribution of many men and women determined to change the situation, grew to include political cadres of great importance such as Ernesto Guevara, who would later establish himself as one of the leaders of the revolution and a historical figure world. The revolutionaries carried out a guerrilla tactic, hiding in the famous Sierra Maestra, a space of pure jungle. From there they repeatedly attacked goals military in order to weaken the government.
