Pedantic is the term popularly used to refer to that conceited, pretentious and conceited person, who spends his time showing off the knowledge that he has, of course in an inappropriate and disconcerted way.
Cocky person who boasts of the vast knowledge that he possesses and that he considers to be superior to that of the rest
Meanwhile to the attitude that the pedant develops is popularly called pedantry.
The term enjoys an absolutely negative consideration.
The pedant likes bragging and boasting of his presumed superiority in certain aspects of life, over other people, and for instance diminishes and devalues them in front of everyone; in many cases it is even the most hurtful to do so and deeply hurts the recipients.
Italian origin of the concept
The word comes from the Italian language and generally arises in close connection with scholarship. Because in this language formerly the professor or teacher of a school, or also to the one who practiced the profession at home, teaching them grammar to the kids.
As a consequence, the demand for home teachers was really low, those who did demand them to instruct their children demanded a vast knowledge and erudition in all aspects.
That is, they wanted to have the best teacher for their children at home, but at the same time they imposed on them to know much beyond the average.
The tests they were subjected to by the people who would hire them were certainly demanding and from that moment it is that the word began to be given a connotation negative, because of course, he was the one who had vast knowledge and also had to develop an imposing rivalry against your potential competitors for the position of teacher to address.
Bragging all the time about what is known
With the to run of the time this use was obsolete but it happened to be used to refer to those people who like to do all the time to quote literary and propose theories, especially when in groups, to show off how much they know about everything.
His only objective is to show that he is a person who has read a lot and therefore has accurate knowledge about the subject or topic in question.
Although knowledge can be an undeniable reality, on some occasions it is also possible that the pedant does not have all those knowledge that he claims to possess, however, his attitude, his way of being and speaking make the rest believe that he does know, that he is from some way a wise that he is in a position to teach anyone, because he is the one who knows the most about everything.
Usually behind the pedant hides a person lacking self-esteem and very insecure about everything, inasmuch as that reality hides it behind the screen of the pedant, of whom he knows everything and all the time he boasts about that knowledge.
A socially frowned upon posture
In general, the pedantic individual is not well seen by the rest of the group to which he belongs, even more so, when he is detected, he is usually discriminated against or neglected by such a situation.
In principle because nobody likes to be sharing moments with a person who does not stop saying how much he knows everything and, above all, he despises the rest because he considers that they do not know anything and therefore are inferior to him.
It is rare that someone likes that another is always bragging about how much he knows about something and more so if he does it accompanied by comments about the ignorance that surrounds him.
There is a convention that says that the one who really knows has no need to display his wisdom about something, but that he actually knows it. it will arise spontaneously and naturally every time it is necessary to apply it in some circumstance and does not need in any way to screw it to no one.
This term is normally used as a synonym for wise, conceited and vain.
