Bloody attack perpetrated on August 25, 2011, in the afternoon, by the Los Zetas drug cartel, against the Casino Royal of Monterrey, the capital and most populous city of the State from Nueva León, and which left a tremendous toll of 52 dead and significant material damage.
Drug violence took over Mexico
The popular betting and games room was violated by the sudden entry of almost 20 armed criminals who caused a fire and many other outrages.
Before setting fire to the establishment with those who were inside, playing or working, they stole some belongings and caused damage to the gaming machines.
Immediately, chaos took over the place, those present ran to hide and escape from the attackers.
Many people were unable to leave the establishment due to the rapid spread of the fire and because the emergency exits were closed, and they died of suffocation.

A few days after the attack, some of those involved were arrested who confessed to having participated in it and opened some light on the cause: the refusal of the casino owners to pay the cartel a monthly fee to be able to operate.

The sentences received by the hitmen convicted of the terrorist act ranged from 75 to 120 years, which is what the law stipulates.
