Importance of Learning from Mistakes
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
Starting from the premise that we all make mistakes to a greater or lesser extent, these have a positive part, since they are a source of learning. The same time, they should be a stimulus for individual improvement.
A very heavy load that can be transformed in our favor
There is people who are tormented by the mistakes made in the past. They lament over them and blame themselves harshly. Self-incrimination leads to a low self-esteem. In some cases, the mistakes made condition the future, to the point of avoiding new projects in order not to suffer from possible mistakes. So that this vital approach does not become a torment, it is necessary to learn to manage mistakes.
Bad strategies or failed decisions can be interpreted from a constructive approach. To do this, we have to learn to analyze mistakes. In others words, we have to assess why we have committed them in an objective and sincere way, without self-deception or excuses.
Guidelines and reflections to learn from our mistakes
We can't help but remember past mistakes, but this shouldn't mean we have to constantly relive them.
The assessments of others regarding our failures must be listened to with attention, but not to the point that they destroy us psychologically (so that the reproach of others is not so harmful, previous reproach of oneself can be useful).
Mistakes should not paralyze us, but neither should they be forgotten. Keeping them present is a way of not committing them in the future.
The discrepancy between what we think and what we feel is one of the most common causes of our wrong decisions. So that this does not happen, it may be useful to remember a Socratic maxim: know yourself.
It is very convenient not to have unrealistic expectations. Thus, wishing for what is beyond our possibilities can easily lead us down a negative path.
Realism is compatible with a vital attitude
For this reason, it is desirable that we avoid destructive messages (if I finally make a mistake, this does not mean that new opportunities cannot arise in the future).
A mistake does not have to be interpreted as a definitive defeat, but can be valued as a source of learning. In this sense, it is worth remembering that many successful experiences are preceded by multiple failures and that the fear of failure is probably the biggest mistake.
The mistakes of the past cannot be changed, but they can be transformed into a source of wisdom.
