Importance of the Titanic Wreck
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
One night in April 1912, the largest ocean liner ever built unexpectedly collided with an iceberg and within hours ended up in the depths of the ocean. The sinking of the Titanic is much more than the story of a simple catastrophe in the history of navigation.
This historical episode can be analyzed from many perspectives: the story of the survivors, the multiple anecdotes that surround it or the analysis of human errors associated with the accident.
Also, it is possible to analyze what happened as a parable from which we can extract some lessons.
What can we learn?
Those who built the Titanic claimed that it was an indestructible ship, but the reality of the facts proved the opposite. This reminds us that on many occasions we trust in our own strength and believe that we can overcome all obstacles.
The ship's captain was warned several times about the possibility of hitting an iceberg, but he considered that the situation was under control. This should teach us that we are not always in possession of the truth and that there is the possibility of being profoundly wrong.
who have studied the characteristics Titanic techniques claim that the ocean liner was built in haste and without proper preventative measures. In the same way, if we are going to launch a large project we have to be cautious and take measures to avoid undesirable errors.
When the remains of the ship were found in 1985, it was found that the rivets used to make the hull were not the same and that they were placed irregularly. This reminds us that in any great project all the details matter.
Only 700 passengers could be saved and more than 1,500 died
Today it is known that the number of survivors would have been much higher if the passengers had collaborated during the sinking.
Although the ultimate cause of the collapse was the impact with the iceberg, there are still enigmas that have not been clarified. In this sense, it is possible that we will never reach a definitive conclusion about something, but this does not mean that we should give up the search for the truth.
There is always some invisible ice that jeopardizes our plans
The iceberg with which it collided was a large rock of ice but not easily visible at night. Something similar can happen to any of us, who do not clearly see certain dangers and believe that everything is under control.
