Importance of Sincerity and Humility
Miscellanea / / August 08, 2023
Sincerity and humility are universal moral virtues. When they are not practiced, falsehood and arrogance prevail.
Sincerity is much more than always telling the truth
It could be said that sincerity is a attitude vital. In this way, whoever is normally sincere in his daily life tries to make his thoughts and his actions harmonious and coherent. If we want others to be honest and honest with us, we need to be honest too.
Who is sincere shows himself to others as he is, without pretense or masks. On the other hand, the sincere attitude is also directed towards oneself and this implies that one avoids false excuses, self-deception or any psychological mechanism through which we deceive ourselves themselves. The sincere attitude makes us feel good inside and, in parallel, makes us someone trustworthy.
Sincerity must be accompanied by an adequate dose of touch and discretion. In others words, it is not about telling the truth at all times, because in this case we could hurt the feelings strangers
On some occasions, sincerity can generate a personal dilemma: I tell the truth and assume the consequences of my statement or, on the contrary, I lie and avoid a possible conflict.
Two faces that are intimately related
We say that someone is humble when he does not brag about his achievements and merits, acknowledges his mistakes and failures, and behaves without showing arrogance. He knows what his qualities and defects are and, therefore, he is someone who is honest with himself. In other words, by being humble we are expressing honesty about who we really are.
If someone has obvious qualities or has made significant achievements, you don't need to be overly proud in front of others. These types of attitudes are considered arrogant and pedantic.
The authentic humble attitude has to be sincere, otherwise it becomes a false humility or false modesty. In this sense, someone practices false modesty when he pretends that his achievements are not as important as they seem. False modesty is a form of hypocrisy and therefore a way of lying and manipulating.
Like all human qualities, sincerity and humility must be adapted to different personal and social contexts. The important thing in both is not to look good in front of others but to be satisfied with oneself.
