Since time immemorial, the delimitation of borders is one of the most important elements for the correct functioning of any State because it is from this that the jurisdiction of the government and its institutions.

The border is an imaginary and artificial limit that the human being established between different territories. The notion of border arises after that of State or community since for the border or territorial division to exist, it is necessary that a community, village, society or group of people in a space. The competition that can occur with another group of people or village over the same territory generates the need to create a border or a limit to indicate how far one can go and how far that step is illegal.

The borders have been marked throughout the history in many different ways. Since most of them are artificial, that is, created by some human need, natural dividing elements such as hills, watercourses, etc. can be used. mountains, orographic accidents, etc., or if they cannot be arbitrarily established in a certain place. For a border to be truly effective, it is important that the two communities or societies to each other side of it willingly and consensually accept it, which implies that neither will try to transfer it

The creation of borders has always been a fundamental element in the establishment of any human community, but especially of the States since it is through the border that one can begin knowing and delimiting the territory over which that State will have can. This delimitation can be between one country and another but even within the same country, for example as it happens with the provinces or the internal territories in which the jurisdiction.

Borders also serve to create identity since it is from them that the notion of identity begins to be created. belonging to a country, a territory or terroir. As the borders are diffuse, citizens lose the notion of belonging and there is a tendency towards a broader idea of ​​citizenship. In many cases, borders have also been important in controlling impoverished populations, such as the borders of the United States and Mexico or those of Israel and Palestine; In both cases, the richest countries build strong and rigid borders with military controls that prevent any type of passage and that seek to prevent the union of the two populations.
