Integer Numbers Example

The integers are those that express an amount formed by complete units (several 1, without leftovers). They are also called natural numbers, and these include ordinal numbers and cardinal numbers. They are different from fractional numbers and decimal numbers, both of which contain a “surplus” in their writing.

Properties of integers

Integers are distinguished by a series of properties:

• They are infinite.
• They represent complete units (1).
• They do not carry leftovers or portions of the unit (1).
• They can represent positive quantities or greater than 0 (with or without a + sign).
• They can represent negative quantities or less than 0 (signed - always).
• If whole numbers are added, the result is also an integer.
• If whole numbers are subtracted, the result is also an integer.
• If whole numbers are multiplied, the result is also an integer.
• For the result of a division to be an integer, the dividend (integer inside the house) must be a multiple of the divisor (integer outside the house).
• The square of every whole number is another whole number.

• For the square root of an integer to be exact, this integer must be the square of an integer quantity.
• The cube of every whole number is another whole number.
• For the cube root of an integer to be exact, this integer must be the cube of an integer quantity.

Natural numbers

Some examples of whole numbers as natural numbers, ranging from 1 to infinity:

1. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, …
2. 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, …
3. 100, 110, 120, 130, 140, 150, 160, 170, …
4. 1000, 1005, 1010, 1100, 1230, 1340, …
5. 10000, 10150, 13050, 23560, 34560, …

Ordinal numbers

Some examples of integers as ordinal numbers, ranging from first to infinitesimal:

1. 1st 1st, 2nd 2nd, 3rd 3rd, 4th 4th, ...
2. 10th tenth, 11th eleventh, 12th twelfth, ...
3. 100th hundredth, 101st hundredth, 102th hundredth, ...
4. 1000th thousandth, 1001th thousandth first, 1002th thousandth thousandth, ...
