Nationality For Great-grandson Of Spanish
Historical Memory Law / / July 04, 2021
The great-grandchildren of Spaniards born in Spain can access Spanish nationality, as long as they meet with TWO requirements very important:
1. Being a minor. If you are not a minor you CANNOT opt for Spanish nationality.
2. So what one of the parents is Spanish. The minor's father must have chosen the nationality of origin through the law of historical memory. The law of historical memory IT IS NO LONGER VALID, if the grandchildren of Spaniards did not choose, they can no longer do soTherefore, great-grandchildren cannot qualify.
THEY MUST MEET BOTH REQUIREMENTS.
If so, a great-grandchild can opt for "Spanish nationality not of origin" because they are under the parental authority of a Spaniard.
It is not necessary to make an appointment, if the great-grandson is under 14 years of age, only the parents must appear to sign. The minor does not have to attend.
The child must be presented for ratification within a period of no more than two years from emancipation (age of majority). This would be when you turn 18 in the vast majority of Latin American countries.
Excluded great-grandchildren and grandchildren have this other option FAMILY ROOTING LAW.

UPDATED: NEW LAW OF BISNIETOS?
The Confederal Parliamentary Group of Unidos Podemos-En ComĂș Podem-En Marea has presented the January 5, 2017 a proposed law on the granting of Spanish nationality to descendants born of Spaniards.
This law seeks to repair the damage and eliminate injustices to:
- The grandchildren of a Spanish grandmother of origin discriminated against in the Historical Memory Law.
- Older siblings (great-grandchildren) discriminated against by Law 52/2007.
- The grandchildren of Spanish who lost their nationality.
We should have more information by the end of the first week of April.
