False reasoning also called sophistry or Fallacy "Ignoratio Elenchi", is translated as "ignorance of the cause" and is one in which the reasoning leads to prove a question or hypothesis alien to the original object of the reasoning. (It is also known as an irrelevant conclusion).
The fallacy ignoratio elenchi tends to prove the wrong point, sometimes intentionally, to "distract" attention from a particular issue to another point that may or may not be related to the topic discussed, but that due to some nuances or relationships can confuse the interlocutor or audience by diverting their attention from the topic treaty.
In this fallacy, one begins by stating the hypothesis to be tested and the elements to be taken into account are listed. It is during enumeration and analysis that attention is accidentally or deliberately diverted from the point that should be answered, reaching an alien conclusion, that although it could be related, it is not the question that should be answer.
The fallacy ignoratio elenchi
It is used very often in some oratory, political expositions, and even in legal matters, (as in oral trials) in which it can be used to influence, diverting attention to different situations, such as in some trials where the defense attorney makes a narration and exposition of what "Good" that is your client, in the social, family, work, religious, etc., influencing the mood of the jury, judge and audience, evading the matter concrete.Examples of fallacy ignoratio elenchi:
Example 1:
Father of Incarnation - Are you ready to marry my daughter?
SaulĀ - Today is a very nice day, don't you think, it's a good day to watch football.
(In this conversation the fallacy ignoratio elenchi, is found when giving an irrelevant answer, avoiding the question asked).
Example 2:
The Prosecutor - Young Emmanuel drove a stolen car, drugged, which collided with a nursing home while fleeing persecution by the police.
Lawyer- My client is a young studious man, has a good college attendance record and outstanding grades. He is also a worker, since he helps his parents in his restaurant; he is religious, he goes to church every Sunday, he is a boy scout and a good soccer player.
(In this case the fallacy ignoratio elenchi consists of the enumeration and exposition of facts concerning the person being talked about, but which have no relation whatsoever to the subject matter. crime committed; and yet he can still influence those who hear the exhibition).
