Carlos Manuel Fuentes Macías was a Mexican writer born in Panama City on November 11, 1928, he was the son of the Mexican diplomat Rafael Fuentes Boettiger and Berta Macías Rivas, he is the first of two brothers of this marriage.
His childhood was wandering because his father as a diplomat went from Panama to Ecuador the same year Carlos Fuentes was born, ending in 1932 in Rio de Janeiro, returning in 1933 to Mexico City to occupy the post of secretary of the regency of the Federal District on which for ethical reasons he decided to leave that position, returning to diplomacy, being transferred in the same year of 1933 to Washington States United; In the 1940s they moved again to Central and South America, arriving in Chile in 1941, then Argentina in 1942.

He already had beginnings in literature and writing, but his family did not predict a way of life in it, so he entered the law career at the National Autonomous University of Mexico in the old school of Jurisprudence, in the middle of these studies he moved to Switzerland to complete his studies.

While he was working to stay in the foreign affairs secretary. During this decade of the 50's, Carlos Fuentes related a lot with Octavio Paz, launching together the magazine “Mexican Literature Magazine”, Which was released in 1956. Apparently the intellectual influence of Octavio Paz and the political influence of Carlos Fuentes allowed this magazine to host high-level articles from Mexico and other countries.
In 1957 he married actress Rita Macedo and left public service in 1958. dedicating himself to writing, beginning his first novel that focused on Mexico City, launching then "The most transparent region" which was published in 1958, positioning him as a great writer at 30 years of age, having related an exceptional criticism of the city.
The criticism he made of the book Julio Cortazar began a great friendship that greatly influenced the career of Carlos Fuentes.
After the Cuban revolution, Carlos Fuentes along with other Mexican and Latin American intellectuals met in Havana celebrating the event.
His support for Cuban policies led to his dismissal from the Novedades Magazine, being accepted along with other writers in the magazine. Always and his support for this revolutionary policy also produced the contempt of the North American government that branded him a foreigner. Undesirable.
In 1962 and being the father of his first daughter Cecilia, he published his novel “The death of Artemio Cruz”, Standing out in the international arena, as it criticized the Mexican revolution and its leaders of the time, becoming the most widely read work inside and outside the country.
Due to its impact, it sparked the rise of Mexican literature in the 1960s. Already by 1962 the publication of the novel "Aura”, Which would again put him in controversy years later.
The novel "Change of skin”Was censored in Spain due to the controversy and criticism it made towards the Francoist government, being published until after the end of the Francoist government.
The 1968 conflict and Carlos Fuentes:
The conflict of 1968 touched him in France, where he perceived a reformist policy, but the criterion is that It is not the same as in France, although they had the same origin, in Mexico it was more political and returned to Mexico.
Already separated from Rita Macedo, he met Silvia Lemus, marrying in January 1972, born in August 1973 his son Carlos Rafael was born, who suffered from hemophilia, the following year Natacha was born.
In 1974 he also published the "Novel Terra Nostra" which was considered very complicated, by 1975 he became ambassador of France, lasting two years in office.
Already in 1984 he received the national prize for literature in Mexico
He resigned two years later returning to his writings; in 1985 he finished the novel "Old Gingo”, Which was taken to the cinema at age three, starring Gregory Peck and Jane Fonda.
In 1987 Carlos Fuentes received the Cervantes Prize, receiving it directly from King Juan Carlos.

His family suffered the death at the age of 25 of his son Carlos, who suffered a heart attack in 1999.

After these sad events Carlos Fuentes did not fall into neglect, he continued writing.
In 2004 he participated in the third congress of the Spanish language, in Rosario Argentina.
Carlos Fuentes made strong criticisms in 2006 of Andrés Manual López Obrador precisely because he considered him unfit for the position and in the elections of 2012 he fully qualified as mediocre the three presidential candidates of Mexico assuring that he would not vote for any of they.
Finally, Carlos Fuentes passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2012 at the Hospital de Ángeles del Pedregal in Mexico City at the age of 83.
