Scientific Letter Example

The great scientists and researchers in humanity, especially from the Middle Ages, made their findings known through correspondence. The creation of science societies during the Renaissance, was the beginning of the collection of knowledge on the subject scientific, and letters, addressed to its members or to society itself, were one of the main sources of this knowledge.
On many occasions, the dates of these letters have made it possible to know who was the first to make a discovery or solve a problem.
Due to its origin and purpose, the scientific letter began like any other letter, in which the sender put for consideration or communicated his new discovery; so it did not have a defined format.
Regarding the format, there is no total consensus, since its length can range from a very short format, such as a note or memorandum, to a very long one, which would be a treatise.
Regarding the content, the application of the scientific method has made the scientific letter have some characteristics that distinguish it, and that at the same time make it fulfill its purpose:
- It must be objective: That is, dedicate itself to the observations made, avoiding, as far as possible, personal assessments that are not strictly part of the procedure
- It must be descriptive: This when we do an experiment or research, since when describing in detail the conditions and circumstances in which we have made them, will allow it to be duplicated by others researchers.
- It must include images: that allow to clarify points that are very long, or can be confusing in text.
- Bibliography: the mention of the books in which we have supported our research, for anyone who wants to know the source that has served as the basis for our work.

I have the pleasure of writing to you, to communicate my recent findings:
During the last Perseid meteor shower, I was lucky to find a meteorite fragment in the Sierra North of the State, approximately 4.5 kilograms in weight and an irregular spherical shape of about 45 centimeters in diameter. I have studied it during these last months, finding that in its internal structure, this particular meteorite contains a nucleus of an alloy of iron, copper, cobalt and titanium; while its external structure is made of porous stone, similar to the volcanic stone commonly known as tezontle.
Along with this email I am sending you a series of photographs from the discovery to the last tests that we have carried out together with my team; They are dated and some contain additional data on the back.
