Mexico City is used as a text in this study, since this name "Mexico" includes many meanings depending on many both social and political situations, in a matter of media it can be said that they have a lot to do with the way of understanding the city of Mexico.
For many people, the city is a place where you live and work to have a place within society. Many people come to the city because they believe that here they will have a better standard of living, but others leave this city for the same purposes. In this chapter the different factors that make this city understood are mentioned, factors that are summarized in the media, that is, the media make the city in a certain way. The city is divided into social strata, in different interests, since each individual is different and seeks people similar to him to live in community.
The media, in a sense, do the same, since each medium is intended for different social strata. Let's start with the press, in Mexico City there are different newspapers, each one has a certain trend and is intended for different people, and these are identified with certain journalistic tendencies, the same happens with the radio, since with its different stations they capture different public. This has to do with the public and the private, that is, there are several things that we all enjoy, only in different ways and there are several trends, this is the case of music and dance, since music is a means of communication, a way of feeling identified with something that wants say something. Through songs and dances, the city shows its own biography and music, its shared history. "The media make certain songs and dances something important, something that identifies them with the city itself and the Mexicans. Music is an example to explain what is public and becomes private, since over time this has happened thanks to the media making these entertainments somewhat easier, since before possibly the music was listened to in open places where people lived together in a joyful way, and they performed some interaction, now this way of fun and relief we have it inside the car or in a more private way such as the famous "walkman" or "Diskman".
This has not only happened in a musical matter, this also happens with places throughout the city, with dances, etc. since little by little we know less about an entire universe that can be a city. It is like public places, the city is not only the zócalo and the mall, a meeting point is not only in Angel de la Independencia in the soccer final. They make something public something privatized, not by the government, but by the people themselves who make certain stereotypes through the media. Each one makes a selection to create, as the book says, “an artificial paradise”. Perhaps this is due to the fact that for example television does not show everything as it is and basically creates an urban tension that inclines citizens to seek a certain therapy in something private. Lately when we watch the news, we only see the scandalous, or the superficial, like the famous marches, the media only rely on mention the traffic that these can cause and the discomfort of the citizens, they do not stop to analyze well the causes of these. What can be observed is that this city is less habitable every day since people are increasingly influenced and less listened to.
