TOC are the acronyms of obsessive compulsive disorder. An anxiety disorder characterized by ideas, thoughts and feelings that are repeated several times in a row and obsessively. This is because by doing so the anxiety is diminished. Since the patients feel that by carrying out certain rituals or thinking of certain ideas they avoid a harm or a negative event that would happen if they did not continue with that ritual or with those ideas.
Apparently the obsessive compulsive disorder It is due to minute damage to the basal ganglia and the frontal lobes, both regions of the brain. This remains a theory, although it is increasingly accepted. Tocs can be controlled with medications, there are two of the most used: fluoxetine and fluvoxamine. They help control you but they don't cure you. Psychological therapy is very effective when the disorder is not very strong and the patient has the will to heal.
There are many types of tocs, but the most common are the following:
Examples of obsessive compulsive disorder:
1. Obsessive about mental rituals: They are people who repeat an idea, a phrase or sentence, or an image several times. It can be anything, many times something nonsensical, but for the patient if he does not repeat them, he becomes anguished or tense.
2. Obsessive about order: They are the people who keep in a scrupulous order all the things and objects that surround them.
3. Philosophical obsessives: They are the patients who have repetitive and uncontrollable negative ideas. Which are very unpleasant, these ideas may not make any sense. But they appear in the mind of the sick person, tormenting him.
4. Obsessive about cleanliness: They are the people who continuously and thoroughly wash or clean everything around them even though it is not dirty.
5. Obsessive about verification: They are the people who continually check everything looking for a defect that could cause a problem.
6. Obsessive about numbers: they are the people who try to find a numerical meaning to everything they see around them or who spend it counting everything they do or see.
7. Obsessive about repetition: They repeat an action a certain number of times, touch objects several times, stomp, repeat a word, make a certain gesture or move something repeatedly.
8. Obsessive about hoarding: They are people who buy or get things that they do not need or that they do need but too much, they are also collectors of strange or worthless things, but that are only valid for the sick; they get to accumulate up to tons of new or old objects that they will never use. It should not be confused with Diogenes's complex where the sick man keeps garbage in order to give it a later use that he never carries out.
