In mythologies each deity holds a place of importance, however, at the request of the mythology Greek, one of the most widespread and in force through time, the relevance of the figure of Zeus, the god of all gods, the most relevant deity within that set of beliefs and legends.
Zeus was in charge of the government Olympus, which is where all the gods resided and the rest of the gods maintained with him a relationship of I respect, admiration, like the one you can have with a father, with a Referrer.
It represented the sky and thunder. Main attributes
He was credited with being the god of the sky and of thunder and had several attributes that distinguished him and with which he was used to graphically represent: the lightning bolt, a bull, the oak, an eagle and a scepter, the typical staff that leaders or rulers use as distinctive of the authority which represent.
The Greeks paid a special cult to this god of gods, the city of Olympia being the place where all honors and tributes were concentrated in those times. The
Olympic Games, which were generated precisely in Classical Greece, were born as a way to venerate this god.Family and offspring
Zeus was the son of the titan Crono and the titanic Rea. The legend says that Crono ate several of his sons before Zeus because they had predicted that his son would defeat him, while Rhea hatched a plan to hide Zeus and save his life. And so it was, Rea, hid it, gave birth to Zeus and thus saved his life.
His offspring were certainly lush, all the fruits of the various love affairs he had with goddesses and mortal women. Formally it is said that he was married to the goddess Hera, one of his sisters and also an implacable goddess who did not hide his anger and jealousy against those who approached her husband. Apollo, Hermes, Artemis, Athena, Persephone, Dionysus, Hephaestus and Ares, are some of the descendants of Zeus.
The equivalent Zeus in Roman mythology, rather inspired by Greek, was Jupiter.
