Words can be classified according to the number of syllables they contain. Thus, there are monosyllables, bisyllables, trisyllables and polysyllables. Like her denomination indicates, bisyllabic words are those that are made up of two syllables, such as hand, little, bad, tree, piece or marble. As you can see, in all of them there are two different voice blows.
The accentuation of bisyllable words
With respect to accentuation of the words there are three possible cases: acute, flat and esdrújulas. In the case of bisyllables, as they are made up of two syllables, they cannot be esdrújulas, since they are accentuated on the third-to-last syllable, which implies more than two syllables.
A bisyllable word can therefore be sharp or flat. The treble are accentuated when they end in n, s or vowel and the voice blow is pronounced in the last syllable. Some examples of acute bisyllables with accent would be the following: pan, ball, lotion or stump.
The bisyllables that do not present this rule are logically not accentuated, such as clock, normal, brush or thimble. Plain words are accentuated when they end neither in n, nor in s, nor in vowel and the major
force voice falls on the penultimate syllable. Thus, some examples of plain two-syllables with an accent would be the following: marble, pencil, fragile, consul or football.
Regardless of the accentuation, there are bisyllabic words of four letters (hand or para), five letters (suit or islands), six (beast or central) or seven (parks or hangers).
Other ways to classify words
In addition to the number of syllables, there are other criteria for classifying words. If we look at their function, words are divided into articles, nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, prepositions, determiners and conjunctions. If we pay attention to their accentuation, they can be divided into watered down, flat or esdrújulas.
According to their structure, they can be classified as simple, derived, variable, invariable, compound or parasynthetic. They can also be ordered according to their meaning (lexicon, grammatical, monosemic, polysemic, etc).
If we take the different classifications as a reference, the word pencil bisyllable is a simple noun with a diacritical accent or accent mark.
The discipline that studies the structure of words is the grammar and within it there are different levels, the phonetic, the syntactic, the lexicon and the semantic.
