What is a sociodrama?

The sociodrama is a group study instrument, which allows to know a social problem, through the different points of view of the participants, who they make a representation of how they have seen or lived a certain situation, and later, a discussion is established about the different points of view exposed.
The organization of sociodrama has several stages:
Choice of theme: In principle, the topic on which the reflection will be made will be chosen. It is a social problem that affects the majority of the group, such as health services, security, education, bureaucracy, etc.
Previous Discussion: In this part, the participants comment on what they know about the problem posed, state their experiences, and write down the general problems.
Sociodrama Organization: Once you have the theme or themes, it will be determined which ones will be represented, the teams that will represent each of the dramatizations will be formed, and they will organize each representation, by way of a small theatrical piece, for which the story, personnel, costumes, who will represent each character, and the interventions of each member will determine of the team.
Representation: The next step is the representation of the situations raised.
Discussion: It is the final part of the sociodrama. Here the whole group participates, preparing an essay about the various problems represented, and their probable causes and possible solutions are discussed. The end result is the understanding of the problem from different points of view and experiences, and the possible means of solution.
