Something is habitual when it happens regularly. A event it can be exceptional and infrequent. If the same event is repeated a large number of times, it becomes habitual. Thus, the habitual is opposed to the exceptional. If something is habitual, don't call the attention. It is a common and widespread phenomenon. On the other hand, if the usual incorporates a new appearance, yes it will get our attention.
Habitual is synonymous with current, majority, frequent. We are familiar with recurring events and we say we are used to it.
Our traditions they are also daily and regular. That is why we talk about habits, those customs that we practice assiduously. In this sense, something habitual is hardly surprising and, therefore, implies a certain boredom. And the normal it is precisely the succession of habitual circumstances.
Psychologically we need to flee from normality because we have the impression that everything has been repeated so many times that we need an incentive, something different to stimulate us. And we do unusual things in order to experience different sensations. There are people who do not seek new sensations, they like their routine, regular life and do not incorporate different habits easily.
This mechanism of the unusual is used by the advertising, since powerful messages are emitted through the ads, different from what usually happens. Something similar happens in the news, in which striking news appears
that move away from the ordinary and the normal.
Any novel element has a difficulty in assimilating it. We need a period of adaptation to new jobs or situations. This situation is intensely experienced by newcomers to a country, the foreigners. They are not used to their surroundings, everything turns out different and his curiosity it is permanently activated. It will take time to adapt to the customs of the new country. When it succeeds, it will settle into another normality. It is what usually happens. It is habitual.
