Thus, for example, any individual who questions the existence of Jesus or otherwise, the virginity of the Virgin Mary, will be considered by the Catholic religion that he is incurring a heresy and will be called a heretic.
The Catholic Church bloodily persecuted heresies
Heresies were formed and born when a group totally rejects the proposal supported by the Church. This situation gave rise to many persecutions on the part of the Catholic Church, which we must say has been one of the institutions who most faced the rebels who rejected his dogmas of faith.
Those persecutions were very violent and bloody in the past, that is, all those who dared to face a sacred postulate were assassinated and even physically harmed with torture. Many others were also punished with excommunication.

Running away from the very Catholic, we must say that Protestantism also knew how to persecute Catholics and witches.
Idea that is contrary to the principles of a science or an art
On the other hand, the word heresy is used to refer to that position that is contrary to the principles of a science or a art and we must say that it is also usual that it is used to account for those ideas or opinions that flatly contradict the beliefs that are considered true and absolute in a certain field or context.
Injurious word and serious damage against someone or an animal
Also, the word can be used to refer to those insulting words that are used to insult or attack someone. "What they have said about you is heresy."
