A three-year-old boy thinks in a magical way, the man of the paleolithic he thought from a mythical perspective and a person of the Middle Ages reasoned from superstitions. These examples illustrate an obvious fact: thought It has multiple shapes and dimensions. From ancient Greece to the present, the human being has developed a way of thinking that has changed the history of humanity, scientific thought.
Fundamental Aspects of Scientific Thought
All the events that surround us occur for a reason, that is, there are causes that explain the phenomena and these causes can be discovered from a reasoning based on the scientific method. In this sense, the scheme General of the scientific method is as follows:
1) a hypothesis explanatory on the observed phenomenon,
2) accumulation of data based on observation and in experimentation,
3) contrasting the data obtained with the initial hypothesis and
4) once the facts analyzed have been verified, it is possible to establish a law general that explains this phenomenon.
Consequently, scientific thought is based on the rigor of the investigation, in the quantification of data and in laws and theories that support the observations.
Scientific thought is a form of knowledge in which subjectivity, fantasy, prejudices and, ultimately, everything that cannot be demonstrated have no place. In this sense, all scientific reasoning is based on objectivity, rationality, and systematicity.
Scientific thought and everyday life
In our daily life we can (and should) incorporate a scientific mindset to offer an explanation of what is happening around us. If we analyze an event, we have to do it objectively (what is its cause, how and when does the event appear, how often, etc.).
On the other hand, we must use criteria of rationality, that is, based on the laws of logic and the principles of human reason. Finally, systematicity is the criterion that allows us to understand an event within a context.
Scientific thought is very present in everyday life and it is what allows us to ask ourselves questions based on reason and what prompts us to search for the truth. In other words, someone with a scientific mindset is one who wants to know why things happen.
