Definition of Literary Criticism

In the precise case of the literature, it will be named as Literary criticism to discipline, activity, which deals with analyze and after evaluating, either positively or negatively, a literary work. And as a consequence of the above, at text through which a literary critic expresses himself through a media written or oral, evaluating and commenting on the characteristics of a production determined literary criticism, it is also called literary criticism.
It is worth noting then that the professional who is dedicated to carrying out these evaluations and analysis of literary pieces is called in the jargon Literary critic. Now, those who dedicate themselves to it can count on some professional study on the subject that they criticize, for example being a graduate in the career of philosophy and letters, or failing that it is also common for people with a long career in literary matters to dedicate themselves to criticism.
Criticism, as most of us already know, is the opinion, the judgment, that a person has about a situation, person, artistic work, among other issues.
As long as and as a consequence of its presentation in public for it to consume, artistic productions, are always the object of the attention of those professionals who are dedicated to just expressing their criticism after appreciating a work, whether of theater, a record, a movie, a book, a TV show, among others.
Although normally and especially the artists who pass through the eye of criticism tend to demonize it, obviously when it is not good or condescending with the work, we must rescue literary criticism as a very important and interesting tool when discovering the existence or not of the present methodological rigor of a work literary.
Now, personal appreciation, which is more present in journalistic articles, can be taken or left but not for that reason should you stop seeing a work because of what is said there.
The Hellenic philosopher Dionysus of Halicarnassus is considered to be the inventor and pioneer when it comes to literary criticism during his time, around 60 BC.
