A helicopter it's a aircraft type extremely popular that is characterized and distinguished because is supported and driven by one or more horizontal rotors. The rotor is composed of two or more blades and is the one rotating part of the aircraft that allows the aerodynamic lift of the ship. It should be noted that we can meet him main rotor , which appears mounted on a mast at the top of the helicopter and the Tail rotor, which consists of a propeller applied to the tail beam of the helicopter. The former causes lift and thrust, while the tail rotor only thrust.
The most prominent feature of the helicopter is produced by the rotor that allows the aircraft to be lifted without the need for displacement, which also facilitates landings and takeoffs without the need for formal runways. As a consequence of this situation, helicopters are mostly used in isolated areas, or in their defect, in those in which congestion predominates and in which then an aircraft could not operate with its features.
Another fundamental issue to highlight about the helicopter is that thanks to the rotor can stay in flight in an area much more satisfactorily than any other aircraft and also performing tasks that an aircraft such as the plane, could not perform. For example, it is recurrent that the forces of safety use helicopters to keep an eye on a certain urban area in which an important event is taking place.
While in comparison With other aircraft, such as the airplane, the helicopter presents a greater complexity, resulting in a cost of manufacturing, use and maintenance much higher than the plane, it is slower, has a shorter flight range and has a lower load capacity, undoubtedly, all of these are diluted before the enormous maneuverability and the ability to remain static in the air in a certain place.
Among the most common uses for the helicopter today are: transport, building, search and rescue in natural disasters and accidents, military use and surveillance.
