The Logical connectors consist words or phrases that serve to join other sentences, function as links and are usually simple words or phrases such as:
Logical connector = On the other hand
Sample sentence = We have no food in the refrigerator. On the other hand we have preserves in the cupboard.
So then they have been called Logical connectors, to those expressions or words that within a speech have a function that consists of linking different ideas from sentences. Several sentences will form paragraphs and several of these in a text. The link of the ideas must be given in a fluid way and that it is easy to understand when reading the final text.
The function of a logical connector is important since without them, oral language would simply be limited. That is, we would have a series of ideas isolated from each other. The argumentation or presentation of more complex ideas within a text would be very difficult to carry out.
Within the use of logical connectors, we have several ways to use it and it will depend on the way it is used. We review some of them below.
1. Additives Its central function is to add a new idea to what has previously been developed. This allows you to give a better sense to the ideas that are being raised.
2. Adversative. Otherwise, it seeks to present an opposition to what had already been developed. We find within them three types of adversaries according to specific functions and they are:
Exclusive The purpose of this type of adversary is to generate a contrast between a new idea and what has been developed.
Restrictive. They seek to give a dimension to the importance of the new idea in relation to what has been said previously.
3. Concessive. They seek to present a subtle contrast between one idea and another, although not in a forceful way, they only look for variations of ideas.
4. Causal. This is another type of connector whose specific function is to give a sense of causality to the idea that is being developed.
5. Consequential. Connector that seeks to give a sense of consequence to the idea that has been developed.
6. Comparatives. It seeks to give support to the previously handled idea with a similarity of another idea so that it can be precisely compared.
7. Manners. Try to develop specific expressions of the idea that is given in a new idea.
8. Sequential. They connect a new idea with the previous one under the premise of the time relationship that exists between the two. A sequence is handled in this sense.
9. Reformulative. Take the idea already handled and pose it in another way to be able to exemplify and support what has already been said. Of this type of connectors there is a classification of three types:
10. Explanatory. They seek to rethink with clearer ideas what has already been said above and it is used a lot in pedagogical strategies for reinforcement.
11. Recapitulatives. It is before the presentation of a summary or synthesis to propose what will be seen later.
12. Exemplary. It is a type of connector that uses examples of the ideas mentioned above for a better understanding of what is seen.
13. Corrective. Its basic function is to make immediate corrections in relation to information of a developed idea that may be contradictory to previous ones.
14. Computers Its function is to prepare the reader for the ideas that are to be dealt with later, for this, allusions are made to parts of a text, either partially or totally. This type of connector is classified as follows:
15. Initials. They seek to introduce in an introductory way the ideas that are being developed in the text.
16. Transitive. As indicated, it allows a transition between a series of ideas developed with others that are to come later in a text.
17. Digressive. Connector that allows you to give a guideline to the development of the text, being able to separate the sequence of the main ideas to deal with secondary aspects without losing the logic of the argumentative text.
18. Temporary They give ideas a sense of temporality, whether they are presented in the past, present or future, that is, they are given a temporality.
19. Spatial. They take the reader within the development of ideas to various spaces in a metaphorical way as a writing resource.
20. Finals. They give a sense of warning to the reader regarding the idea of the end of the argument in the text itself.
