The word motley refers of various colors badly combined, that is to say, that then when we want to account for an individual, an object or thing that as a characteristic overhang presents an inappropriate combination of colors, we can use this term to refer to the aforementioned situation. The decoration of your house is so motley that it is practically impossible to recognize the objects and the furniture.

And on the other hand, the other use of the term allows to refer to that heterogeneous, which presents neither order nor connection.

We call heterogeneous what is found composed of parts that have different nature. Heterogeneous systems have intensive properties whose values differ in some of the points that it presents, for example, there are heterogeneous systems that are made up of a single element that observes more than one phase and precisely because of this characteristic we speak of the property heterogeneity. And on the other hand, the terms sober, homogeneous and simple, are the concepts that are directly opposed to the concept of variegated in the two senses of use.
