School harassment or bullying, such is its name in English, unfortunately it is a very recurring problem today.
Abuse of one peer to another in the educational field
Bullying is understood as the mistreatment that a person (usually a boy or girl) may suffer in the school environment by her peers.
It should be noted that violence and bad treatment is sustained over time, increasing the level of violence.
This abuse can manifest itself in many ways, being physical and verbal violence the most common.
Insults, fist blows, constant abuse, destruction of the other's belongings, threats and systematic persecution, are the main actions with which bullying is materialized.
Other forms of abuse include discrimination, indifference, mockery, etc.
Social and family violence and intolerance, some of its causes
Specialists understand that bullying can have many meanings and causes, but it is usually related to the fact that we live in a highly violent, competitive and individualistic society in many senses and spaces, in which there is also a lack of dialogue, communication and intolerance.
It is common for a child who assaults another, or causes him some kind of harm, probably also suffers some kind of physical or mental abuse in his own intimate reality.
On the other hand, the lack of values such as solidarity, the fellowship and the participation in a group they are so present in society that it is difficult for the school (which also generates the values of competitiveness, success and failure) to reverse them.
It is common to hear or know cases of children who occupy roles of leadership in a group and lead them to commit perverse actions against other more defenseless or weaker children and it is this same violence and permanent abuse that have caused great school tragedies, perpetuated by those children or adolescents tired of suffering abuse, indifference and discrimination from their classmates.
Violence and bullying are not problems that can be solved overnight, but rather have to do with a form of communicate on a social and general level that is based on the use of aggression, violence, intolerance and disrespect.
Adolescents and children tend to discriminate and attack those they consider different without really knowing them, generating feelings fear, fear, suffering, sadness and even depression that are often difficult to reverse and that mark the person for life preventing him from leading a normal and full life.
Now, we must emphasize that bullying is not a problem that is reduced to these times, it has always existed, only that today it has become more visible because the people who suffer it and suffered it, they are encouraged to denounce it, to talk about it and this generated that it has become a topic of discussion and attention on the part of all social actors that are affected by same.
On the other hand, the violence that is used today to express it has also generated that it does not go unnoticed in any way, it is no longer a question of loaded or mocked, but in many cases it is carried out with a tremendous load of violence, which leaves wounded and even dead.
Talk about the issue, education, and lower the levels of violence, some ways to combat it
We cannot ignore that the fact that this issue has begun to occupy one of the first places of the problems that affect people has helped make it more visible and the search for solutions to eradicate it.
Talking about it and accepting it as a problem is already a path towards its solution.
Also, the testimony of many famous personalities giving an account of their suffering has helped a lot in this regard.
But do not be discouraged, bullying can be solved if all social actors contribute their grain of sand in this regard.
Parents, family in general, and schools should be attentive to these demonstrations, when they notice them and discourage them of course, the education it is always a fundamental and effective tool.
And on the other hand, it is important that the mass media, which are often carriers of highly violent messages, are aware of the power they hold in public opinion and raise awareness about the dire consequence of the use of violence and, for example, do not promote or encourage.
