The initials in the title of this entry do not refer to trademarks of any product, but are acronyms in English that are related to the language associated with new technologies and that are part of the communication global.
LOL
These acronyms are used to indicate in abbreviated way that something is very funny
Thus, LOL corresponds to "Laughing out loud", a expression which is equivalent to "I'm dying of laughter". LOL is also used to express love, since it comes from the English expression "Lots of love". A third meaning of the acronym refers to a very popular online battle game, "League of legends".
OMG
In English there is an exclamation widely used in everyday language, "Oh, my god"
It could be translated as "My God!" but in reality he has nothing to do with God, but communicates with her astonishment or surprise at something and can also express complaint or burden. OMG is a catchphrase that is used in all kinds of circumstances.
YOLO
It is the literal translation of a very common expression in English, "You only live once", that is, you only live once
Thus, if someone wants to communicate that one must take advantage of life intensely, he can to write YOLO.
BTW
These acronyms correspond to the expression "by the way", which mean by the way
It is used in various contexts: to make a brief interruption in a conversation, to remind someone else of something, or to end a boring conversation. A lesser known meaning of BTW refers to the return to work or "back to work".
XOXO
In the Anglo-Saxon world, XOXO is written at the end of a text on social networks and it is a farewell formula or it is a way of congratulating someone for some reason
It is equivalent to "hugs and kisses". These acronyms do not correspond directly to its true meaning (Kiss and hugs, kisses and embraces), since it is a representation symbolic, X stands for kiss and O for hug. When used in the plural it ends up becoming XOXO.
WTF
The origin of the acronym WTF is in the title of a song by a British DJ whose pseudonym is Fatboy Slim
The title is "What the fuck?", Which in Spanish could be translated as "what the fuck is happening?" or "what the fuck!" or other similar colloquial expressions. Thus, if we see WTF written we must know that someone communicates their protest or discomfort about something.
A reflection on this new language
Languages change and evolve in a natural way. It is a phenomenon that is neither good nor bad, but is inevitable. However, the abusive use of these acronyms can impoverish language and distort communication. Imagine that someone writes the following on twitter: "About what you say, the truth is that LOL and BTW I told you that tomorrow we could go to the party together, because remember that YOLO. XOXO ". This brief message it would make sense, although it shows that this type of acronym, like any other word, must be used in the proper context and with the necessary doses.
