Astonishment is a state or feeling that normally affects people and that is triggered after appreciating something totally out of the ordinary. Let's say that the abnormality that shows something, either for better or for worse or for example when someone does something that would never have expected him to end up doing it are some questions that can lead to the astonishment of someone.
It is a sensation quite normal and common among people, that is, it is not something that is hardly experienced far from it, on the contrary, we are usually amazed with various questions.
If we see a tremendously tall person, we will be amazed; If our sister who hates cleaning, suddenly cleans the whole house and leaves it shiny it will cause us flower of amazement; If a soccer team was losing 4 to 0 and traces the result with a 5 to 4, we will also feel great astonishment.
This concept is closely related to other concepts widely used in our language such as: surprise and admiration
, that is, the astonishment is often used instead of those mentioned to express the same thing. As we see, amazement has as a common denominator of its appearance the development of an event that was not expected, that was not foreseen or that comes out of what we normally see.
It is worth clarifying that the surprise that will get out of itself and will disturb the person in question may be due to a event positive, which will bring benefits to this or the rest of the people, or on the contrary, it is an unpleasant situation, which It will be surprising more than anything because it is something really unexpected, or having been caused by a situation or done very, very strange.
For example, the finding of a vaccine against a disease mortal, such as cancer or AIDS, can be the cause of a wonder that will unleash the great admiration of the people and that at first will paralyze them with surprise more than nothing because after so much time and struggle he got it and then, that astonishment will be the consequence of, for example, in the public space not talking about anything other than it.
Meanwhile and on the other hand, for example, the death of a known person, relatively young and who until yesterday was apparently healthy and suddenly suddenly he dies, it will also be a shocker, which obviously falls within the unpleasant astonishing situations that I mentioned more above.
Likewise, an unusual invention, beyond what our mind can understand, can also be reason of amazement.
Amazement is a emotion that is distinguished by presenting an important variety of physical signs that by the way are the ones that allow us to recognize it, identify it as such, among the most common that occur we can cite: maximum elevation of the eyebrows, enormous opening of the eyes, the mouth open, accompanied by an elevation of the eyelids, grasping with the hands some part of the body, usually the face or chest.
Regarding the duration we must mark that the astonishment lasts only an instant, together with those indicated physical signs, then it gives way or to the joy or to sadness, as appropriate.
The concept that is opposed to that of astonishment is that of apathy and this is precisely because apathy is an emotion that also It is experienced with ease and recurrence and is characterized by the total absence of interest in something, the priority is indifference.
