Known as one of the most important and traditional sports disciplines, the history of athletics goes back to Ancient Greece, when it was the main activity sports to be performed in the Olympic Games that were commonly celebrated. Athletics gets its name from the Greek term athlos what does it mean 'competence'. Many historians consider that the first athletics competition took place in 776 BC. C.
Athletics is one of the most characteristic and important sports competitions of the Olympic Games. It is based on the resolution of different types of races, marches, throws, jumps and others that can vary in terms of velocity, endurance or distance. Athletes can perform them individually or in groups when working in posts, and they can also take part in various options.
Among the tests carried out within the category of athletics we must mention sprinting (which can go from 60 to 400 meters), medium and long distance races (between 800 and 10,000 meters), hurdles races and relief. Then there are the different marathons, the
March athletic and cross country. With regard to jumps, they can be length, height and others, while the throws are discus, javelin, hammer and weight.Athletic events can be held within stadiums specifically equipped for this purpose. These stadiums must have the famous Olympic tracks that are usually either orange or blue and are divided into lanes. Tests can also be carried out abroad, especially this happens with marathons that cover very long distances and that are usually one of the most anticipated and traditional moments of the Olympic Games since in them you can see incredible athletes who travel enormous distances.
In addition to the Olympic Games, there are major events and championships such as the World Athletics Championships, the World Cup of the World of Athletics, the different Continental Athletics Cups, and the Golden League which consists exclusively of 6 journeys.
