The concept of paroxysm refers in our language the supreme exaltation of something, usually of feelings, opinions, sensations, a sexual excitement or passions. That is, it is the most intense and acute moment of the aforementioned.
We really must emphasize that it is not usual for people to speak in terms of paroxysm to refer to the above lines, it is more common than precisely the word exaltation is used, it is more popular to use the latter, however, it is correct that the word in question is also expressed for refer it.
In the field literary and in the oratory, paroxysm is widely used as a resource or tool to exaggerate something, exalt it, or to express in an exaggerated way and with great passion a situation. For example, when someone says of another that there is no one in life better than him, he will be incurring a paroxysm. In this sense then, paroxysm generally turns out to be the consequence of the admiration extreme that one has for someone and by case the need to express it in a grandiloquent way is such that there is nothing better than a paroxysm to do it.
Many politicians in their oratory usually include the resort of paroxysm to speak to their town and thus enlarge some situation to move them. And their most staunch followers also tend to respond with paroxysm when talking about them to people who know us so well or to defend them against those who defenestrate them.
On the other hand, in the medicine it is given a specific use to indicate precisely the moment, stage sharper than a disease that is suffered, that is, the paroxysm of a condition will be that stage in which it worsens markedly and then the symptoms and the general condition of the patient is the worst.
