The acronym CIA stands for Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA is a institution which is headquartered in the Langley area, which belongs to Fairfax County in the state of Virginia, in the United States. The CIA was created after World War II in the historical context of the cold War between the United States and the former Soviet Union.
What is the goal and mission of the CIA
The fundamental purpose of this body is to ensure the safety national and fight any danger potential that may affect the United States. The threats that the CIA fights are very diverse: international terrorism, the espionage activities of other nations, nuclear weapons or organized crime in its various forms.
As the objective of the CIA is to ensure the security of the United States, it is not possible to know all the information related to this organization. In fact, the data that is handled is classified as "classified information", that is, it is something that must remain secret. If not, you would be offering useful information to potential enemies you intend to combat.
The CIA is a service of intelligence and is equivalent to others organisms widely recognized (the Mossad in Israel, the KGB in the former Soviet Union or the Stasi in the former Democratic Republic German).
The dark side of the CIA
All the intelligence services of a country have a double dimension: they protect the country and, at the same time, in their task of protection have to carry out actions that are on the legal frontier or illegality. This dark side has been tried to justify on some occasions (it speaks of the reasons of state), but there is no doubt that the CIA and the rest of the intelligence services are organizations under suspicion permanent.
Revealing documents that are leaked
Studies and evidence suggest that the CIA has been involved in the overthrow of some foreign regimes that were opposed to the interests of the United States. On the other hand, in the movie theater and the literature the various questionable aspects of this intelligence service have been addressed.
The CIA, a necessary evil?
For some, the activities of the CIA obey a strategic necessity and even consider it a "necessary evil" (spy on potential spies). For others, the existence of the CIA is proof that the international order works with rules unknown and that go beyond what citizens can know through the channels democratic.
