Easily recognized for its unique shape, for its style and because it is in one of the most special cities in the world, the gondola is one of the most beautiful and fantastic means of navigation that can be found. The gondolas are a type of low and elongated barge that have two raised tips and that are one of the most characteristic elements of the town of Venice, in Italy. These barges are used especially by tourists who seek to know the beauty of this unique city in the middle of transport more traditional, romantic and beautiful that exists.
Gondolas have existed since before the 18th century in Venice and it was especially from this moment (and then in the 20th century) that they became really popular and characteristic of the town. Because Venice is lined with canals of all kinds and sizes, the boat it was always one of the best means of transport that the Venetians could use. However, it would not be until the 20th century that these gondolas became extremely popular due to the huge influx of tourists to the city.
The gondolas are driven so Handbook and not to motor as it happens in the present with other ships. To navigate the Venetian canals it is necessary for the gondolas to be navigated by gondoliers, characters very particular that together with its gondolas characterize the Venetian ideology and spirit from head to toe.
Gondolas are rather narrow and small barges when it comes to carrying passengers. At most, each gondola can carry a maximum of four passengers plus the gondolier at one end who travels standing still while maneuvering the boat with a single long oar. The gondolas are longer than they are wide and usually end with raised tips that have a decoration similar to the that had the Greek triremes (boats on which they are based since they take their elongated shape and the decoration of the tips). This decoration also tends to act as a counterweight to balance the weight of the gondolier and prevent him from tipping the barge to one side.
