Rafting is a recreational and sports activity that takes place in rivers with turbulent waters. It could be said that it is the adaptation of traditional canoeing to a river with rough waters (in the rafting slang known as white waters because of the foam of this color, something typical of rivers scrambled).
The term rafting comes from the English word raft, which is any structure that is used to navigate (a boat, a canoe or a kayak). The first reference to rafting dates back to 1842, when a group of American military men made an expedition in the Río de la Plata.

In 1972 rafting became an internationally recognized sport and was incorporated as one of the Olympic disciplines in the Olympic Games from Munich that year (the modality was called Canoe Slalom, which has a precedent in the Canoe Sprint, which was practiced at the Los Angeles Olympiad in 1932).
In 1997 the International Rafting Federation (IRF) was founded, the entity that unifies the criteria and norms of this sport.
In recent decades it has had many followers around the world, probably because it connects with those people who want to have emotions intense and feel the adrenaline when sailing with a boat on the choppy waters of a river.
