At the behest of thecomputing, ROM is the acronym popularly used to designate, Read Only Memory, which in Spanish is the same to say Solo Memory reading. ROM is a source of storage used by computers and other electronic equipment.
The information that is stored in the ROM cannot be modified by the Username common, since on the one hand the content that is stored is what is called firmware, which is the software that is related to a specific hardware and also because other information that is necessary for the functioning normal of our computer.
Today, thanks to the constant advances that exist in this regard, it is possible to find different types of ROM... MROM it is the oldest, whose saved data are permanent and unchangeable, EPROM and Flash EPROM, are more modern versions of ROM that do allow rewriting and reprogramming.
The first computers to be marketed had their operating system stored in the ROM and then when it was necessary to carry out updates it could only be done by changing the initial ROM and replacing it with a new one; Currently, technological advances in this regard make it possible for the
computer work differently and only a few programs run on ROM.ROM is used today, for example, to store data by velocity higher than the discs; On the other hand, it is not feasible to read a program that requires the execution of a disk from the disk itself, this causes the computer's boot system to be housed in the ROM.
Some Video Game Consoles, such is the case of games Sega Mega Drive, Super Nintendo or Game Boy, they use ROM memories in cartridges, then, the ROM will only work when the cartridge is entered in the appropriate space, when the cartridge is removed, the information is no longer available provision.
