The term ubersexual refers to a male stereotype that encompasses a set of aspects related to personal image, character and lifestyle. As for the word, it comes from the German root über, which means over or over.

A general profile

This type of man transmits safety in himself and has a style of his own. It is about an individual who takes care of his image and is interested in fashion, but without exaggeration.

It is usually a man who does sport although he is not obsessed with his muscles. Usually dresses elegantly and at the same time casual. However, his casual look is not something improvised or spontaneous but he is usually very well studied.

In trend jargon it is claimed that ubersexual has superseded the metrosexual

The ubersexual man archetype has replaced another, the metrosexual. A man is metrosexual when he takes care of his appearance meticulously. Normally he waxes his body, uses creams to hydrate his skin, does a manicure and uses all kinds of accessories in his clothes. You could say that the metrosexual is a runway narcissist, while the ubersexual is a confident man who does not need to attract attention.

It should be noted that both metrosexuality and ubersexuality are not related to sexual inclinations, so both stereotypes can be heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual.

The new masculinity and the historical precedent of the dandy

Terms like these are neologisms that have recently been incorporated into the language daily. Both concepts express a new vision on masculinity traditional. For centuries men were considered virile and masculine if they gave up their care bodily, otherwise they could be considered homosexual.

While metrosexuals and ubersexuals are relatively recent male archetypes, there are no forget that in the nineteenth century an archetype other than the traditional virile male appeared in Europe, the dandy. The protagonist of the novel "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald is the paradigm by dandy and is characterized by its aesthetic refinement, impeccable appearance and fashionable clothing.
