A party with more than one hundred years of history.- In 1891 Leandro N. Allem founded the Union Civic Radical. Its appearance must be understood in a context of economic crisis and a deep disenchantment of the popular classes that saw the oligarchic governments as usurpers. This formation is considered the germ of Argentine radicalism, an ideological current that includes different parties and characterized by its republicanism, its federalist approach and its defense fervent of the human rights and civilians.
In 2015 the electoral coalition "Cambiemos" brought Mauricio Macri to power as the new president of Argentina. This front was made up of various political formations, one of them being the Unión Cívica Radical (UCR).
From the ideological point of view, the UCR has diverse currents within it. Among them, the liberal approaches of the Krausist doctrine, the Argentine federalist tradition and the social one stand out.democracy.
Also in its doctrine stand out the claims of egalitarian aspiration and secularism. This training is integrated into the International
Socialist.Achievements and proposals
The UCR promoted two relevant social measures: Sunday rest and the eight-hour work day. It has been and is considered the party that represents the Argentine middle classes, although in its origins it aspired to represent the most disadvantaged classes and the descendants of immigrants. Among its achievements, the university reform of 1918, promoted by the then president, Hipólito Yrigoyen, stands out.
He is considered the promoter of universal suffrage, and on the other hand he was the first political party Argentine in proposing the feminine vote, that finally did not prosper due to the majority conservative currents.
The right The strike is another of the initiatives that emerged from the leaders of this group. Already in the recent history of Argentina, President Raúl Alfonsín was the promoter of the prosecution of those most responsible for the Argentine military dictatorship.
The range of proposals that the UCR has led throughout its history is very broad: strengthening the education public, nationalization of some resources, agrarian reforms and environmental measures.
Currently
Like most political formations, the UCR presents different internal currents. There are three that stand out above the others: macroism, Kirchnerism and the social democratic current. Regardless of the internal currents, the current leaders of this group maintain that the principles that govern the party are the same that inspired its foundation: freedom and freedom. equality.
