If we take into account that water occupies two thirds of the land surface, it is logical that the human being has devised types of systems to move through the aquatic environment: canoes, canoes, boats, boats and a long list of means of transport. Surfing is not a means of water transport, but rather a form of entertainment in which practitioners slide on the waves near the coast.
To practice surfing you need, of course, a board. The choice of one board or another depends on the type of waves, the weight of the surfer and the characteristics of the waves. Its measurements are indicated in the table itself in feet and inches. For the board to slide correctly, it must have adequate measurements and a certain thickness.
Those used for beginners to this sport have to be wider and with a lot of volume, because in this way the surfer has greater stability.
Most of them are made with some type of rubber to avoid bumps. The most advanced athletes use lighter boards made with fiberglass.
The important thing in any board is that it adapts well to the movement from the waves and make it as maneuverable as possible. The boards that end in a point are ideal for the surfers' maneuvers to be precise.
The challenge of standing on a board
Before starting to surf in the water, beginners should practice the movements on the board on solid ground. In this sense, you have to practice foot placement exercises, correctly balance your support points and keep your trunk straight. Once in the water, beginners have to practice standing on the board to have a correct position and avoid falling into the water.
Surf culture
This activity, whether in its recreational or sports aspect, has its own dimensioncultural. In this sense, surfers have their forums of debate online, they paint and care for their boards and, above all, they look for the ideal places where they can find the perfect wave.
It started in Hawaii as a hobby among the natives. In this archipelago there was a custom of gliding over the waves with a board to earn the I respect of others.
Surfing became popular in the 1930s in California, where the first clubs and championships appeared. In the 1970s the wetsuit was invented and surf culture became a global phenomenon.
Using new technologies, it is possible to make a prediction of the big waves a week in advance and this advance has been a real revolution among surfers.
