Definition of Davos Forum

An international meeting of prestigious economists, big businessmen and political leaders is held annually in the Swiss town of Davos to discuss and analyze the main challenges that humanity has. Although the official name of this event is that of Forum World Economic (translation of World Economic Forum), in journalistic terminology is better known as the Davos Forum.

The purpose of the Forum

The entity that promotes this meeting is a Swiss non-profit foundation. This meeting has been taking place since the 1970s and is currently considered a first-rate international summit.

Over the years the major issues that affect the planet as a whole have been addressed: technological changes, globalization, genetic engineering, entrepreneurship social, the main risks in the safety of the network or the challenges of Finance system. As a complementary activity to these debates, those responsible for the forum prepare reports on issues of global concern (for example, analysis of competitiveness or trade international). On the other hand, the forum organizers publish the conclusions of the meeting annually and their discussions can be followed through social networks and YouTube.

The analysts in favor of this type of summits maintain that the Davos Forum brings intangible benefits, since it is not it tries to find new formulas to solve problems but to debate ideas to evolve towards a better world.

The most significant criticisms of the Davos Forum

Some intellectuals and social activists consider that Davos is nothing more than a great lobby that tries to condition the politics global planet. In this sense, the Davos summit is accused of being the ideological arm of the capitalism and globalization.

Davos is claimed to be the symbol of the financial bubble that affected the economy in 2008 and caused a widespread recession with serious consequences.

The Davos Summit is seen as nothing more than a club of the rich and powerful who are doing nothing but defending their own interests.

The Davos Forum aims to contribute ideas to improve the world economy and society as a whole. However, other platforms denounce the economic elitism of the summit and, in a very special way, its inability to connect with the real problems that affect humanity.
