The l (twelfth letter of the Spanish alphabet) is a consonant letter, that is, a letter that represents a closed sound, which is articulated from an obstruction in the air passage.

The letter ele (l) graphically represents the phoneme / l /, an alveolar phoneme (it articulates in the alveolar region), lateral (the air is expelled through the sides of the mouth) and sound (there is vibration of the strings vowels).

In Spanish, it is very easy to distinguish the words that are written with this letter, so there are usually no spelling errors in your writing.

In addition to the words with l, we have the words with ll. The double ele is a digraph, that is, two letters that are written together and that represent a single sound.

In this case, when we see a double ele in a word, it represents a palatal lateral phoneme (/ ll /), although in most cases Spanish-speaking countries is pronounced the same as the phoneme / y /, as a central palatal sound (this phenomenon is known as yeísmo).
