It is known by the term etymology to the discipline that deals with the origin of the words, their incorporation into the language, sources and if their form and meaning have been modified.
In those cases in which the language dates back many centuries, scholars and experts in etymology can deduce and know the original meanings of some words, as well as if they have undergone any modification over the years. Because of course, just as we comment many times that the world and its inhabitants advance and change in terms of uses and traditions, fashions, among other issues, the words they use also change and mutate, leaving some practically obsolete. For example, in some Spanish-speaking countries, such as Argentina, the word hearing was used a few decades ago to refer to those radio programs or, failing that, television, however, it has been replaced by the most modern programs (radio or television) and Of course, when someone pronounces the “old” hearing, the youngest, generally, do not understand the use that is given to it and of course the person who uses it will leave in
evidence his years. And just as some terms are becoming obsolete, there are others that, due to their recurrent use, get them included, for example, in the Dictionary of the Royal Spanish Academy.
On the other hand, etymology is also concerned with noting those cases in which a certain language accepts and borrows some words belonging to other languages or lexicons and which will later become their own, losing, due to the regular and current use they receive, that foreign origin. For example, the Spanish language has been able to borrow from English the terms cocktail, Leader and gol, from French, garden, souvenir, hotel, garage, from Italian, mask and blackboard, among others.
Meanwhile, the etymology is not only due to the knowledge of the origin of the language Castilian, like a language neo-Latin derivative from the Latin that the Romans introduced and used around 206 B.C., but also the etymology allows you to expand vocabulary and improve writing so as not to make mistakes orthography.
