The word 'new' is a qualifying adjective that is used to describe those elements, situations or phenomena that are novel, not used or that have not occurred before. In this way, the term new or new always implies a break with the previous by presenting something different, singular and that as a consequence it will cause surprise in the spectators, for example, when it is said that a car line is new and more evolved than the previous one.
There are many situations and contexts in which the adjective 'new' can be used appropriately. On the one hand, the most common use that this adjective has is when it is applied to specific objects and items, for example a new piece of clothing, a book new, etc., that is, to what has been recently created or manufactured.
In this sense, the object is generally described as something that does not contain previous use and is therefore in the best possible condition. Here, then, the notion of something different from the rest is included and that does not have the same characteristics since it means some kind of break, for example: a new lifestyle that is
structured with other behaviors and behaviors. But nevertheless, it can also be new to the person who owns it regardless of whether it has been used or not (for example, a used book but new to the person who bought it).Later, it can also be used to describe a person who is new to joining a group whose members are already established. A good example for such a situation might be a new student who comes to the course in which all the students know each other beforehand. Laura is the new one for this year's course and that is why she has attracted most of the attention.
Popular expressions containing the word New
The term "new" is used for certain concepts and expressions in common use that are already socially established. Some clear examples of this are the expressions: "Happy New Year", which we use every beginning of the year in the toast and to wish the other to have an auspicious year; "the New World" (referring to continent American) towards the end of the 15th century, when Christopher Columbus discovered America he marked the use of this expression to differentiate the new world, which was none other than the recently discovered continent, with respect to the old world, as it was said of Europe; "The New Testament" (the part of the Bible in which the story of Jesus is included) is about the set of books that were written after the birth of the son of God and that integrates the Christian Bible together with the Old Testament, which are the writings that preexisted Christ; "be again" (meaning to return or return).
The term is also used to designate regions, such as New Mexico, in the United States.
The new, the best ally of the consumption and the enemy of the used
At the behest of the consumption of certain goods such as electronics, cell phones, computers, tablets, televisions, the value of the new is important It is fundamental as a consequence that the consumer of this type of products tends to favor the latest in trend and novelty at the time of purchase to the detriment of the used. This need that people normally express with these types of products generates that large companies that use them commercialize, in their advertising campaigns, just emphasize this sense of novelty, original and latest, and of course, downplaying the importance and value of those previous versions that according to the standards of technology are already old when a newer model.
Now, it is important to point out that with other types of goods this does not happen and the opposite happens even more: the older is privileged over the new, such is the case of antiques. In the Commerce of objects and antique furniture is law that the older the object in question, the greater the monetary value it will have.
The used and the old, the other side of the new
From the above, it follows then that what is opposed to the new is the old or the used.
By old it refers to something that is already many years old, that is, that has been created or manufactured a long time ago. Meanwhile and depending on the inclination that each one shows, for some the old will show an important value, instead, for those who privilege the latest, the new will not have it at all and will tend to discard it precisely because of their condition of old.
Meanwhile, what is used is that which shows use, which has been used by others and for that matter is that it tends to show wear and tear. The used does not necessarily have to be old, it can be a Article of recent creation but be worn down by the use that was given to it.
It is worth noting that although for some people what is used is not of interest and they are inclined to acquire the new, there is on the other hand a large part of the market that is inclined towards the purchase of used merchandise.
